Ingredients Needed for Homemade Air Fryer Biscuits
- All Purpose Flour. The base of our biscuits, providing structure and texture.
- Baking Powder. Helps the biscuits rise and become fluffy.
- Cream of Tartar. Adds a subtle tangy flavor and helps with the leavening process.
- Granulated Sugar. Adds a touch of sweetness and helps with browning.
- Butter. Provides richness and flavor. Cold butter is best for flaky layers.
- Milk. Brings the dough together and adds moisture.
How to Make Perfect Biscuits in the Air Fryer
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: All-Purpose Flour, Sugar, Cream of Tartar, Baking Powder, and a pinch of Salt. Mix these dry ingredients together with a spoon until well combined.
- Use a cheese grater to grate the cold Butter into the flour mixture. This method ensures the Butter is evenly distributed, leading to flakier biscuits.
- Then use a pastry cutter or fork to mix the Butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the Milk. Stir with a large spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- Use your hands to incorporate all the flour, but be careful not to over-mix or knead the dough too much, as this can make the biscuits tough.
- Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about ½ inch thick.
- Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out circles of dough. Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket lined with parchment paper.
- Air fry at 370 degrees F for 6-7 minutes of cook time, flipping the biscuits halfway through to ensure even baking. They are done when they are golden brown on both sides.
FAQs
Yes, you can air fry premade frozen biscuits, such as Pillsbury Grands biscuits. Just increase the cooking time by a couple of minutes.
Both basket and oven style air fryers work well, but cooking times may vary slightly.
Storage & Freezing
Storage: Once cooled, store any leftover biscuits in an airtight container or ziploc bag at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the Air Fryer at 350 degrees F for a minute before serving.
Freezing: Biscuits can be stored in a sealed container and frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat directly in the Air Fryer at 350 degrees F for 2-3 minutes.
Substitutions & Variations
- You can use unsalted butter instead of salted butter for more control over the saltiness. Alternatively, try using margarine or a plant-based butter substitute for a dairy-free option.
- Any type of milk will work, including almond milk or oat milk for a non-dairy version.
- Substitute whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor and added fiber.
- Transform this recipe into Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits by using buttermilk instead of regular milk for a tangy flavor and extra tenderness.
- Experiment with using a flavored butter like garlic or herb butter for a different taste.
Pro Tips
- Cold butter is essential for creating flaky layers in your biscuits. Grate the butter or cut it into small pieces before mixing it into the dry ingredients.
- Overmixing the dough can make the biscuits tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined, and handle the dough as little as possible.
- Preheat your air fryer for a couple of minutes before adding the biscuits. This ensures they start cooking immediately, leading to a better rise.
- Flipping the biscuits halfway through the cooking time ensures they bake evenly and get golden brown on both sides.
